Yoga Therapy for Arthritis


Who Can Benefit from Yoga Therapy for Arthritis Sessions?

This is the session for you if you suffer from continued arthritic pain in your joints, whether this is osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or another form.

The session will help to relax body and mind, reduce stiffness and improve overall mobility by working with simple and gentle movement and breathing to activate the relaxation response and settle the nervous system. As well as movement and breathing, we will work with sounds, visualisation and meditation to calm and focus the mind and increase positive outlook.

Information to help improve quality of sleep and simple dietary suggestions will be shared to support bone health and reduce inflammation, all supporting self- management of the condition and improving quality of life.

Small Group Approach

A small group session involving gentle yoga postures, breathing techniques, visualisation, sound and meditation to relax the body and mind, helping to reduce pain and stiffness and keeping the joints comfortably moving.

There are differing kinds of arthritis and different causes and the approach in this small group session will be considerate of these differences. The techniques will support self- management of symptoms which empowers us to live with more ease and quality of life.

Relaxation techniques and lifestyle tips to help promote good quality sleep will be shared. Good sleep supports health and wellbeing and can reduce pain. Techniques to settle and re-balance the nervous system will help regulate internal systems, and reduce stress and pain by activating the relaxation response.

Some simple dietary suggestions will be shared to support bone health and reduce inflammation.

The practice can incorporate movements whilst seated in a chair if that is most accessible. Blankets and cushions will help give support if you are working on a yoga mat.
