Yoga Therapy for Lower Back Pain

Who Can Benefit From the Yoga Therapy for Lower Back Pain?

Lower back pain can be persistent and the root cause may not be fully understood. Often during times of discomfort the body’s natural tendency is to “tense up” in an unconscious effort to “push” the pain away. Included in these sessions will be some mindful movement to free up restriction and improve mobility. As well as bringing more energy, breathing practices can be very calming and will help reduce pain. Also by relaxing the muscles in your body, there is the opportunity to “move through” discomfort rather than resist it. Mindfulness and visualisation practices can be explored as a useful tool, reducing the full impact of your pain and activating positive thinking.  Lifestyle advice will also be shared to support your health and wellbeing.

Small Group Approach

The human body is a magnificent organism, and under the right conditions it has the capability to heal. Here we will explore some self care routines that promote healing, and support you on a physical, emotional and energy level.

A restorative approach with some relaxation practices will help assist the body in releasing tension, and bring a calmer present moment. A Body Scan practice will help you become more consciously aware of how you feel physically, emotionally, energetically and spiritually. We can explore some visualisation techniques to help with pain management, to ease discomfort and to encourage new understanding. Gentle mindful movement maintains mobility, ensuring essential bloodflow and nutrients. Where relevant we can make some postural improvements, with some strengthening practices to help with functioning and alignment.

Without oxygen to bring vitality and life to cells, tissues, organs, we can feel depleted and tired. Breathing practices can be helpful in calming the stress response and reinstating a more natural relaxed breathing rhythm. When we are calm and able to breathe more fully, energy and sleep can be restored.

Along with your Yoga mat please have a couple of blankets, and a few pillows or cushions available.
