Yoga for Back Pain Workshop
On May 28th, Nilbon Yoga offered a Yoga for Back Pain workshop at Studio One in Nettlebed, Oxfordshire.
We started the session by some grounding breathwork and highlighted the importance of breath for general health and pain management. We did some basic breathing practices to create a sense of calm and self-awareness and prepare ourselves for the practice.
After this, we focused on posture and did some gentle practices in Tadasana (Mountain Pose), exploring body position, weight distribution, and alignment.
Julia guided our participants through our Upper Back session. In this part of the workshop, we did some supine stretches, twists, and much more to bring the awareness to the upper back, exploring the sensation that movement and breath create in our muscles and bones.
Cath led our participants through the Lower Back session. We had time for some much needed pelvic tilts, and explored the role of glutes in supporting our lower back movement.
We ended the session by discussing the topic of Ahimsa (non-violence) and had time for self-inquiry to ask ourselves what non-violence towards self and others mean to us and how can we be kinder to ourselves in how we move our bodies.
Julia, with her kind and reassuring voice, guided us all for our yoga nidra (yogic sleep).
Since this workshop, I have been asking myself, how I can prioritise constructive rest to make it a part of my daily life.
Ahimsa, is one of the most interesting topics in yogic philosophy, which in my view is had profound relevance for our lives. I will write about this topic in future posts.
